Prime Minister Greets Citizens in Eid Celebration

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman warmly exchanged Eid greetings with citizens from across the nation on Saturday, welcoming diplomats, educators, party leaders, and members of the general public. He was accompanied by his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, as families and supporters gathered to mark the festive occasion.

The official Eid greeting ceremony began at 10:00 a.m. at the state guesthouse, Jamuna. Anticipating a large turnout, organisers opened the gates to the public at 8:30 a.m., prompting a surge of visitors eager to offer their felicitations. Citizens from diverse backgrounds—professionals, party workers, and ordinary families—quickly filled the premises, with the crowd eventually stretching along the route to Hotel Intercontinental. Law enforcement personnel were strategically positioned throughout the area to maintain security and ensure orderly proceedings.

Earlier, at 8:30 a.m., Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and President Md. Sahabuddin led the main Eid al-Fitr congregational prayer at the National Eidgah grounds. Thousands of worshippers participated in the prayer, which marked the spiritual beginning of the Eid celebrations.

This year’s Eid carries special significance for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, as it is his first in Bangladesh following a 19-year absence. He had last celebrated Eid in the country in 2007 and was compelled to leave for London in September 2008 during his tenure as senior joint secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Returning to Bangladesh on 25 December 2025, this Eid represents both a homecoming and a reconnection with the people he has long served.
