Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Bogura on 20 April to attend a hospital inspection programme and to inaugurate a canal excavation initiative in his ancestral village. His visit has generated extensive preparation from the local administration and considerable interest among residents. The confirmation of the visit was provided on Sunday by Bogura District Commissioner Toufiqueur Rahman.
According to the District Commissioner, no formal detailed itinerary has yet been issued, but the Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Bogura on 20 April. On the day, he is likely to take part in an activity at the Bogura District and Sessions Judge Court. He will subsequently visit his ancestral home in Bagbari village under Gabtali upazila.
During the visit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to inspect the Ziaur Rahman Village Hospital, which was established in the name of his father. In addition, he will inaugurate the distribution programme of family cards at Shahid President Ziaur Rahman Degree College. Another key component of the visit includes the inauguration of a canal excavation project located adjacent to his ancestral residence.
A delegation from the district administration visited the Bagbari area on Friday as part of preparatory arrangements for the visit. The inspection was conducted to assess on-the-ground conditions and logistical requirements.
The District Commissioner stated, “We have identified the facilities and challenges on the spot. Engineers concerned, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, and other officials were with us. We will determine the next course of action in coordination with the local Member of Parliament and the Prime Minister’s Office.”
Local residents have expressed interest regarding the visit, particularly in relation to the canal excavation project and broader development expectations in the area. Several community members noted both infrastructural and administrative concerns in the locality.
A summary of the scheduled engagements is presented below:
| Programme | Location | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Court activity participation | Bogura District and Sessions Judge Court | Attendance at scheduled judicial-related programme |
| Visit to ancestral home | Bagbari village, Gabtali upazila | Inspection of family residence |
| Hospital inspection | Ziaur Rahman Village Hospital | Review of hospital facilities and operations |
| Family card programme inauguration | Shahid President Ziaur Rahman Degree College | Launch of distribution activity |
| Canal excavation inauguration | Adjacent to ancestral residence, Bagbari | Commencement of canal digging project |
Local resident Mahabbat Mondal stated, “Our Bogura’s son Tarique Rahman is coming to his own home as Prime Minister, which is a matter of great joy for us. If the canal is excavated, it will benefit the area significantly. However, our longstanding demand is that Bagbari should be made an upazila and employment opportunities should be created for local people.”
Another resident, Saikat Hasan, noted that this would be the first visit in approximately 19–20 years since 2004. He added that, despite being the Prime Minister’s locality, development in the area had remained stalled.
Residents also emphasised that the visit is significant for the improvement of local roads and educational institutions. Public attention has particularly focused on the canal excavation initiative. Local resident Rafiqul Islam stated that the canal had previously been encroached upon, preventing people from benefiting from it. He further noted that if it is excavated under government initiative, it will be beneficial for the wider community.
Overall, preparations continue in Bagbari ahead of the Prime Minister’s scheduled visit, with both administrative arrangements and local expectations increasing in parallel.
