“Through the World Bank financed project, development activities, including modernization of seven youth development and training centers, construction of new buildings, provision of modern equipment for youth training, construction of modern classrooms will be implemented,” he said.
He was the chief guest at a meeting where young entrepreneurs, organizers, and trainees shared their perspectives with Department of Youth Development officials and staff. The event, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Asif Ahasan, was attended by youth development officials as well as Director of Youth and Development Directorate (Administration) Abdul Hamid Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner AWM Raihan Shah, and Deputy Director of Rangpur Youth Development Office Abdul Farooque.
The secretary said complaints are often received against the Development of Youth Department where training is not done properly and officers do not pay proper attention to their work. “We have taken departmental actions against the arbitrariness of those officials. Many have been fired from their jobs,” said Mesbah Uddin, adding that officers and employees should have compassion for the country.
He said transparency and accountability must be ensured in the works of the DYD and any allegations of financial irregularities or corruption against anyone cannot be accepted in any way. “There is a lack of adequate equipment for providing training to youth officers. That’s why we are working to organize the department through assistance from various donor organizations,” he said.
He said modern youth training centers will be equipped with CCTV cameras for monitoring and those centers will be monitored by the Director General of the DYD from the ministry and donor agency. “Every office in the Department of Youth Development will be a smart office. The department is doing a lot of good work but people are not getting to know about it due to lack of publicity. Measures should be taken for that purpose,” he said.
