Actress and model Sadia Jahan Prova has issued a heartfelt and strongly worded clarification after being entangled in what she describes as a frightening and deceptive encounter with a company linked to online gambling. In a lengthy video statement posted to her Facebook page, she recounted how a misunderstanding spiralled into months of anxiety, public confusion, and reputational risk.
Prova explained that the saga began during the last Ramadan, when a company approached her with what appeared to be an ordinary promotional offer. They introduced themselves as a gaming platform that occasionally streamed T20 cricket matches, claiming that several celebrities had already worked with them. At no point, she says, did they mention gambling, betting, or anything remotely illegal.
From the beginning, she had reservations. She admits she is not familiar with gaming, does not play mobile games, and has little understanding of online gaming culture. For that reason, she repeatedly asked the company for clarity. Yet each time, she said, they dodged her questions, offering vague explanations and presenting promotional videos that looked innocent enough.
Eventually, believing the offer to be legitimate, Prova went to the company’s office to sign a contract. She received a token payment and recorded a small promotional bite. She says she had no reason to suspect anything was amiss — until the moment she posted the short clip. Within hours, fans began warning her that the platform was actually a betting website, which is both morally objectionable to her and illegal under Bangladeshi law.
Shocked by these responses, she immediately contacted the company demanding answers. What she received instead was gaslighting. Some representatives suggested she did not understand what a betting site was; others denied responsibility and insisted she had been properly informed. Prova strongly rejects these claims, insisting the company knowingly concealed the truth and attempted to lure her into endorsing illegal activity.
She described how a later stage of the project would have included a full-scale video shoot. During costume selection, she noticed sample OVCs that resembled classic gambling advertisements. When she questioned this, the representatives brushed her off, claiming those samples were “from foreign companies”. Prova now believes this was part of a calculated attempt to confuse her.
Once she realised the truth — primarily due to her followers’ comments — she cut all ties with the company, despite their attempts to intimidate her. She contacted security experts and preserved all communication as evidence. Although a promotional bite exists online, she insists it has been manipulated and does not reflect the original content she recorded.
In her message, Prova confessed she felt deeply embarrassed and regretted not being more vigilant. Nevertheless, she stressed that she acted immediately upon discovering the nature of the website. She rejected the notion that she accepted the job knowingly, and she strongly refuted claims that she participated in any gambling-related promotion.
Her closing statement was firm and unambiguous:
“Please understand — I have never promoted any betting or gambling site, nor will I ever do so. I rejected the project the moment I learned the truth. I hope this explanation helps clear the confusion.”
She urged journalists to circulate her clarification responsibly and emphasised the importance of artists receiving transparent information before agreeing to promotional work.
