RAB Recovers Four Abandoned Grenades in Demra

Four grenades, left abandoned in the Sarulia area of Demra, Dhaka, have been recovered by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), officials confirmed on Saturday. According to RAB, the explosives were looted from a police station during the anti-discrimination student protests, making their recovery a significant security measure.

RAB-10 conducted the operation following intelligence reports. Tapas Karmakar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Media), said the team located the grenades at a place locally known as Goru Haat (Cattle Market) around 8:00 pm. “These grenades were found abandoned, and they will be formally handed over to the Demra police station for investigation,” he said.

Security analysts note that abandoned explosives can remain in the community for years, posing serious risks to public safety if mishandled or deliberately misused. Such recoveries demonstrate the importance of intelligence-led policing in urban environments where illegal weapons may circulate unnoticed.

The case also underscores the long-term repercussions of political unrest. Grenades and other explosives looted during protests or movements can resurface at any time, potentially escalating violence or criminal activity. By recovering these items, RAB has removed a direct threat to the local community and reinforced the importance of vigilance against illegal arms.

Furthermore, the incident serves as a reminder that co-operation between intelligence units and local law enforcement is crucial to maintaining public security. Proactive operations such as this not only prevent potential accidents but also strengthen public confidence in the authorities’ ability to enforce law and order. Analysts suggest that continued monitoring of areas with historical unrest is vital to prevent abandoned weapons from re-entering circulation.
