Rabindra Sarobar New Year Programme

At Rabindra Sarobar in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area, this year’s Bengali New Year will once again be celebrated through the traditional cultural programme “Hajar Konoje Borboron” (thousands of voices in welcome of the New Year), organised jointly by Channel i and Surer Dhara, as in previous years.

The main segment of the celebration will take place on the first day of Boishakh, beginning at 5:30 am and continuing until 9:00 am. During this time, Rabindra Sarobar will host a collective musical presentation marking the arrival of the Bengali New Year, featuring renditions of Bengali songs performed in a coordinated choral format. The programme will include participation from students of Surer Dhara as well as artists who have arrived from different parts of the country.

Alongside the students and participating performers, a number of established and emerging artists from Bangladesh’s music scene will take part in the event. Among the noted performers scheduled to appear are Rofiqul Alam, Fahim Hossain Chowdhury, and Kiran Chandra Roy. A wide range of younger-generation artists will also participate, contributing to the collective musical performance planned for the occasion.

The programme will be presented by Deepti Chowdhury. In addition to the musical performances, an organised recitation segment will be delivered by Jayaanta Chattopadhyay. The event structure therefore combines group singing, individual performances, and recitation as part of a coordinated cultural observance of the New Year.

Later on the same day, a separate cultural programme marking Chaitra Sankranti will be held at the same venue. This segment is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm, continuing the day’s observance with additional cultural presentations associated with the final day of the Bengali calendar year.
