Railway Worker Injured in Stone-Throwing Incident

A railway employee has sustained serious injuries after stones were thrown at the Tourist Express train travelling from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka. The injured staff member, 52-year-old Shabber Ahmed, works as a bedding porter, responsible for supplying passengers with sheets, pillows, and blankets. He was promptly admitted to hospital following the attack.

The incident occurred on Monday, 2 March, at approximately 8:15 PM in the Dulahajara area of Chakaria Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The train had recently departed from Cox’s Bazar Railway Station and had passed Islamabad Railway Station in Eidgaon Upazila, heading towards Dulahajara, when the attack took place. According to preliminary police reports, stones were deliberately thrown at the train, striking Mr Ahmed on the head.

Shabber Ahmed, a resident of Banshkhali Upazila, Chattogram, suffered a head injury that required immediate medical attention. He was initially taken to Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital, but due to the severity of his injury, he was later transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Doctors confirmed that he required ten stitches and, despite the severity of the wound, his condition has stabilised.

Mohammad Mostafa, station master at Dulahajara Railway Station, stated that the stone-throwing incident occurred primarily between Eidgaon and Chakaria Upazilas. “Mr Ahmed is now in stable condition. The railway authorities have initiated a full investigation into the matter,” he said.

Following the incident, the train was temporarily halted as a precautionary measure. Measures were taken immediately to ensure the safety of passengers and to provide urgent care to the injured staff member. The railway administration, in collaboration with local security forces, is now conducting a thorough inquiry to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
