Barcelona continued their remarkable goalscoring run with another emphatic victory in La Liga, defeating newly promoted Racing Santander 7-2 at Camp Nou on Wednesday night (16 September). Brazilian forward Raphinha was the star of the evening, completing a hat-trick as Barcelona maintained their perfect record after six league matches.
The hosts began with immediate attacking intent and quickly pushed Racing deep into their own half. Barcelona opened the scoring in the eighth minute through Joao Cancelo, who unleashed a powerful strike from around 25 yards. The early goal gave the home side control and allowed them to dictate the tempo of the match.
Barcelona doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute when Raphinha converted a penalty. Racing responded eight minutes later, with midfielder Gueye finding the net to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and briefly give the visitors renewed hope.
Barcelona, however, continued to create pressure around the Racing penalty area. Their third goal arrived in the 36th minute when Asier Villalibre inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. The Catalan side regained their two-goal cushion and continued to threaten before half-time.
Raphinha added his second goal of the night in the 42nd minute. Receiving a pass from Dani Olmo, the Brazilian forward finished clinically to make it 4-1. Barcelona therefore entered the interval with a comfortable three-goal advantage.
Racing managed to make the scoreline more respectable shortly after the restart. Yassir Jabiri scored in the 65th minute, reducing Barcelona’s lead to 4-2. Any prospect of a serious comeback, though, disappeared almost immediately.
Just two minutes later, Raphinha stepped up to take another penalty and completed his hat-trick. It was his 11th goal in seven matches across all competitions this season, underlining his prolific start to the campaign.
With Barcelona firmly in control, attention then turned to their other attacking players. Lamine Yamal remained a constant threat and thought he had scored in the 72nd minute after weaving past several defenders inside the penalty area. His effort was ruled out for offside.
Barcelona soon restored the flow of goals. In the 79th minute, Gabriel Jesus came on as Raphinha’s replacement and opened his La Liga account. Yamal supplied the through ball into the penalty area, and Jesus needed only one touch before curling his effort towards the far post.
Yamal eventually got his reward in the 89th minute. Adeyemi produced an impressive run from midfield, beating two opponents before entering the penalty area and cutting the ball back. Yamal met the delivery with a powerful strike to make it 7-2.
The goal extended Yamal’s scoring run to four consecutive La Liga matches and five matches in all competitions. He has now scored seven league goals this season, further strengthening Barcelona’s attacking options.
The victory also highlighted the extraordinary scoring figures Barcelona have produced during the opening stages of the campaign. They have played seven matches so far and have scored at least five goals in five of them. Their total has reached 33 goals, while only seven have been conceded.
Barcelona’s league record is equally impressive. They have won all six of their La Liga matches and sit at the top of the table with 18 points. Real Madrid are three points behind in second place. Racing Santander, meanwhile, have suffered their third league defeat and remain on seven points in 10th position.
For Barcelona, the result was another high-scoring display built around attacking pressure and clinical finishing. Raphinha’s three goals provided the foundation for the victory, while Gabriel Jesus and Yamal added further gloss in the closing stages. With six wins from six league fixtures, the Catalan side have made a commanding start to their campaign.
