Thick fog in Saidpur, Nilphamari, on Sunday morning has significantly reduced visibility, causing delays in aircraft operations and inconveniencing passengers. Several flights departing and arriving at the airport experienced disruptions, although no cancellations were reported.
Lokman Hakim, acting officer at the airport’s weather office, explained that the intensifying fog is a seasonal phenomenon, common with the onset of winter. “The fog reduces visibility, which directly affects flight schedules,” he said, urging passengers to check flight timings before travelling to the airport.
Passengers reported difficulties due to the delays. Momota Begum, who needed to reach Dhaka by 11 a.m., said her 9:30 a.m. Novoair flight was postponed. A US–Bangla flight also landed around 9:24 a.m., approximately half an hour later than scheduled. Airport sources stated that most flights faced delays of around 30 minutes due to the dense fog.
Airport Manager A K M Bahauddin Zakaria assured the public that no flights had been cancelled and that normal operations would resume once the fog dissipates. He also requested passengers to remain patient and follow airport announcements to minimise inconvenience.

The fog has highlighted the challenges faced by regional airports during winter, particularly in northern districts of Bangladesh. Aviation authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely and coordinate with airlines to adjust flight operations safely.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport early, monitor flight updates, and plan for possible delays. While the fog is expected to thin as the day progresses, authorities stress that safety remains the top priority in all flight operations.
The situation serves as a reminder of the seasonal impact of weather on air travel, and officials are urging both passengers and airline staff to exercise caution and flexibility during the winter months.
