Dr Reza Kibria, son of former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria, has joined the BNP and expressed interest in contesting the upcoming national election from Habiganj-1 with the paddy-sheaf symbol. The BNP has kept the seat vacant and is yet to announce its candidate.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Reza Kibria confirmed that he has already filled in the primary membership form of the BNP and will formally join the party within a few days. He stated, “I will definitely contest the election in my constituency with the paddy-sheaf symbol. In the 2018 election, I contested from Habiganj-1 as a candidate of the Jatiya Oikya Front with the same symbol.”
However, several senior BNP leaders said they were not aware of his joining.
Prior to the 2018 election, Reza Kibria joined Gono Forum and served as its General Secretary. He later joined the Gono Adhikar Parishad led by former DUCSU VP Nur and became its convener. After the party split, he founded a new political platform named ‘Amjonotar Dal’. He then remained inactive in politics for a considerable period and was not involved with any political party.
