Ride-Sharing Motorcycles Granted Five-Litre Fuel Quota

Amid global disruptions in energy supply due to tensions in the Middle East, the government has imposed daily limits on fuel purchases to maintain a stable distribution. While ordinary motorcycles have been restricted to fuel worth 200 taka per day, authorities have now raised the daily limit for ride-sharing motorcycles in metropolitan areas to a maximum of five litres.

This announcement was made on Tuesday through an official notice from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). The notice specifies that ride-sharing motorcycle operators may purchase up to five litres of petrol or octane per day.

The BPC highlighted that fuel must be sold at government-regulated prices, and any attempt to increase prices citing shortages is illegal. No government directive has authorised any increase in fuel prices.

Under the new directive, ride-sharing drivers must present a receipt for each fuel purchase, clearly stating the type and quantity of fuel. Previous receipts must be submitted during subsequent purchases. Fuel distribution will be cross-checked against the driver’s vehicle registration number and records on the ride-sharing application to ensure compliance.

Previously, BPC had set a limit of two litres per day for motorcycles, which applied from last Friday.

To ensure uninterrupted domestic supply, fuel imports continue as scheduled, with shipments arriving regularly. BPC also confirmed that fuel is being distributed to all depots nationwide through rail wagons and tankers to meet demand efficiently.

The BPC emphasised that these measures are designed to maintain fairness and continuity in fuel availability. Ride-sharing operators and other vehicle owners are strongly urged to adhere to these regulations to avoid penalties or legal action.
