Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has made an immediate mark in the Big Bash League (BBL), earning the prestigious title of Hobart Hurricanes’ Player of the Season for the 2025–26 campaign. Although the domestic tournament in Australia concluded on 25 January, the recognition arrived more than two months later at Cricket Tasmania’s annual awards night.
This season marked Rishad’s first-ever appearance in the Big Bash. Despite being a debutant, he showcased remarkable skill and consistency, claiming a team-high 15 wickets. Notably, no other spinner across the tournament managed to surpass his tally, underlining his impact in the middle overs. His disciplined bowling saw him concede just 7.82 runs per over on average, a figure that kept the Hurricanes’ opposition under constant pressure throughout the season.
Sharing the 15-wicket achievement were Cooper Conolly of Perth Scorchers, a left-arm spinner, and Lloyd Pope of Adelaide Strikers, a leg-spinner. However, it was Rishad’s blend of wicket-taking ability and economy rate that ultimately earned him the season’s top individual accolade for the Hurricanes.

In the women’s division, the Hurricanes’ Danni White Hodge was named Player of the Season. She amassed 432 runs during the campaign and played a pivotal role in guiding her team to their first Big Bash title, demonstrating both leadership and consistency at the crease.
Each year, Cricket Tasmania presents these awards across various categories to acknowledge outstanding performances and contributions to the game. Rishad Hossain’s recognition is particularly significant, reflecting not only his individual talent but also the growing impact of Bangladeshi players in major international T20 leagues.
