A devastating road accident on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway has left two generations of a family in grief, as a single collision claimed the lives of a father and his young son, plunging two women into profound loss.
The victims include ambulance driver Nur Alam and his son Nur Hasanat Nirab, while another relative, Afzal Hossain Mithu, remains in critical condition. The tragedy has devastated their family in Feni’s Sonagazi area, particularly Nur Alam’s wife Nasima Akhter and his elderly mother Fatema Khatun, both of whom have lost their only son and grandson in a single incident.

How the accident occurred
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the collision took place on Tuesday morning when a motorcycle carrying Nur Alam, his son, and their cousin attempted a U-turn on the highway near Daudkandi. At that moment, a Chattogram-bound “Daudkandi Express” bus struck the vehicle with significant force.
All three riders sustained severe injuries. They were first taken to Feni General Hospital, where Nur Alam was declared dead. His son was later transferred towards Chattogram Medical College Hospital but died en route near Baraiyarhat. The third passenger, Afzal Hossain Mithu, suffered multiple critical injuries.
Victims and immediate impact
Nur Alam worked as an ambulance driver at Feni Diabetic Hospital. His profession had long been associated with transporting patients and even corpses—tragically, the same ambulance later carried his own body and that of his son back home.

A household torn apart
In the family home at Rajapur village, grief has overwhelmed Nasima Akhter, who repeatedly collapsed while mourning her husband and only son. Her emotional cries echoed through the household as relatives struggled to console her.
The tragedy has been compounded for Nur Alam’s mother, Fatema Khatun, aged around 75, who had already lost her husband years earlier. With the deaths of both her son and grandson, she is now left in near-total emotional isolation.
Family members recalled that Nur Alam’s daughter, Tahmina Sultana, had shared a final meal with her father just a day before the accident. She described how her brother and cousin had accompanied their father on what was meant to be a routine visit to a relative’s home.
Community mourning and funerals
The bodies were brought home amid an extraordinary convoy of ambulances, whose sirens echoed across the village. Two funeral prayers were held before father and son were laid to rest side by side in the family graveyard. Local leader Zainal Abedin Babul described Nur Alam as a well-known and sociable figure in the community.
Ongoing medical emergency
Meanwhile, Afzal Hossain Mithu remains in intensive care at a hospital in Chattogram with severe head, leg, and spinal injuries. Doctors have indicated that his condition is deteriorating, and he may be transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Legal proceedings
Officer-in-Charge Gazi Muhammad Faujul Azim confirmed that Nur Alam’s wife has filed a case under road traffic laws, and police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
What remains is a family irrevocably altered—one accident erasing a father, a son, and the stability of an entire household in a matter of moments.
