Runa Laila, Bappa Duet Bengali Ghazal

Veteran Bangladeshi vocalist Runa Laila and contemporary singer-composer Bappa Mazumder are set to be heard together for the first time in a duet performance, featuring a Bengali ghazal composition. The collaboration marks a notable joint appearance between two prominent figures from different generations of the country’s music industry.

The song, titled “Anayase”, has been written by Syed Galib Hasan. The project was formally announced recently by Runa Laila through a video message, which she shared on her verified Facebook page on Friday, 24 April.

According to Runa Laila’s statement in the video, the song was initially intended to be recorded as a solo performance by her. However, after listening to Bappa Mazumder’s musical arrangement and composition, she herself proposed that the piece be performed as a duet. This change in approach resulted in both artists recording the song together.

In her remarks, Runa Laila described Bappa Mazumder as a highly skilled composer, singer, and music director. She stated that the decision to collaborate was made after considering that the combination of their voices and musical interpretation would enhance the overall quality of the composition.

It has been reported that the recording session for the song was completed approximately one year ago at Bappa Mazumder’s music studio in Banani, Dhaka. The production process therefore predates the public announcement by a considerable period, indicating a long preparation phase before release.

Bappa Mazumder, reflecting on the collaboration, stated that working alongside Runa Laila was a particularly significant experience for him. He described the opportunity as fulfilling a long-held aspiration, noting the personal importance of the project in his musical career.

Runa Laila further noted that this form of experimentation in Bengali-language ghazal music has not been undertaken in this particular manner before, highlighting the duet structure involving two established artists from different musical eras.

The official release date for the song has been confirmed as 16 May, when it will be made publicly available. Prior to its release, the announcement has drawn attention due to the first-time collaboration between the two performers and the stylistic approach of the composition.
