At least eleven people, including a bus driver and conductor, were killed in a catastrophic road accident in Pakistan’s Sindh province on Sunday morning. The incident occurred on the national highway in Tando Masti, Khairpur district, when a passenger coach collided with a trailer carrying heavy concrete girders.
According to rescue sources, nine of the deceased were passengers, alongside the bus driver and conductor. The bus, reportedly travelling from Punjab to Karachi, was involved in the high-impact collision that left several others injured. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Khairpur Civil Hospital, while at least ten injured individuals are receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities, as confirmed by the Edhi Foundation.
Sindh’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) immediately instructed the Khairpur SSP to oversee rescue operations at the site. Authorities were also directed to ensure emergency assistance in surrounding areas and to keep roadways open for swift transportation of the injured to hospitals.
Tragically, this is the latest in a series of deadly road accidents in Pakistan. Only two days prior, on Friday, 13 February, a multiple-vehicle collision near Kathore on the M-9 motorway—including an oil tanker and several passenger vehicles—claimed at least 14 lives and left numerous others injured.
Rescue officials stated that among Sunday’s victims were women and children. The intensity of the crash caused several passengers to fall from an overpass, further contributing to the fatalities. Police investigations revealed that the bus involved in the Tando Masti accident had been travelling on the wrong side of the highway at the time of the collision.
An FIR has been registered at Gadap Police Station on behalf of the state. The complaint includes charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and other related offences. Preliminary reports suggest that around 3:40 pm, an oil tanker lost control, striking the trailer and another vehicle. The initial impact caused the bus and an additional vehicle approaching from the opposite direction to overturn. The tanker driver died on the spot, along with drivers and passengers of the other vehicles involved.
