Robbery at tea office in Rajshahi

A departmental office of Ispahani Tea in Sheikhpara, Borobongram, under Shah Makhdum Thana in Rajshahi, was robbed early on Sunday morning. The incident took place at approximately 4:30 a.m., when armed robbers restrained the security guard on duty before ransacking the office.

According to reports, the robbers tied up the guard and then systematically searched the office, breaking open drawers across two floors. On the first floor main office, they stole 177,000 taka, while at the ground floor sales centre, they looted an additional 38,500 taka. The total stolen amount thus reached 215,500 taka, marking a significant loss for the office.

Shah Makhdum Thana officer-in-charge Mashuma Mustari confirmed that the police immediately inspected the scene, collected CCTV footage and other evidence, and launched a full investigation to identify the culprits. She added that legal proceedings have already begun and that authorities are working to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident has raised concerns about security at departmental offices in the region, particularly those operating outside central urban areas. Local residents and employees have called for enhanced security measures, including more robust surveillance, better lighting, and the presence of multiple guards during overnight hours.
