Robbery of Tk 8 million in RAB disguise, one arrested

Narayanganj, 20 January 2026 – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) has apprehended one individual in connection with the robbery of a gold trader, in which approximately BDT 8 million was stolen while the culprits impersonated RAB officers.

RAB-11’s Company Commander, Major Md. Naimul Haque, confirmed the arrest in a press statement on Monday afternoon. The operation follows the audacious daylight robbery that occurred earlier this month.

The arrested suspect, Md. Bellal Khan Tuhin, 38, was apprehended at around 11:30 pm on Sunday from Nolkhola in Doshmina, Patuakhali. During the arrest, law enforcement recovered a sum of BDT 237,910, an iPhone 16, two additional mobile phones, and a gold ring.

According to RAB, the robbery took place on 7 January around 3:00 pm in Matuail, under the jurisdiction of Jatrabari Police Station, along the Dhaka–Chattogram highway. Two jewel traders of Haji Jewellers, Mozammel Haque Humayun (52) and Fazle Rabbi (28), were returning to Narayanganj by bus after selling gold in Baitul Mokarram, Dhaka. A white microbus intercepted their vehicle, and several individuals, claiming to be RAB officers, forcibly removed the traders along with a bag containing cash.

The assailants then assaulted the victims, blindfolded them, and abandoned them beneath the Langalbandh Bridge in Narayanganj’s Bandar Upazila before fleeing the scene.

During initial interrogation, Bellal admitted his involvement in the robbery. RAB officials have indicated that operations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects connected to the crime.
