At the Teknaf border in Cox’s Bazar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) apprehended a Rohingya drug trafficker carrying 120,000 Yaba tablets while attempting to enter Bangladesh from Myanmar.
The incident was confirmed on Tuesday (11 November) night by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commander of BGB’s Ukhiya Battalion 64. The arrested trafficker has been identified as Md. Nurul Amin (24), son of Mir Ahmed from Balukhali 11 Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya.
According to the BGB commander, a special patrol team was deployed in the Howaikya Unchiprang BOP area of Teknaf after receiving intelligence that a large consignment of drugs would enter Bangladesh. At that time, an individual attempted to cross from Myanmar via Naf River into the border area. When challenged by the patrol, he tried to flee, but BGB personnel pursued and apprehended him.
During the arrest, 120,000 Yaba tablets were recovered from him. The BGB commander added that intelligence surveillance has been intensified to identify the suppliers and other traffickers involved in this operation. Legal action is being taken against the arrested individual and the seized drugs, and he is in the process of being handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station.
