In a distressing incident in Dhaka’s Mugda area on Wednesday, 28 January, a rickshaw puller vanished along with a nearly three-year-old child, Hisan Rahman. According to the child’s mother, Sumaiya Akter, the pair were on their way home from a medical check-up when the rickshaw and its driver disappeared within minutes, leaving her frantic and searching across the neighbourhood. A General Diary (GD) has since been filed at Mugda Police Station.
Sumaiya Akter told Kaler Kantho, “We had just finished a hospital appointment around midday. On the way back home, Hisan asked for water. I left him briefly at a nearby shop to buy some, but when I returned, both the rickshaw and the driver had vanished.”
Muhammad Imdadul Islam Tayeb, Officer-in-Charge of Mugda Police Station, confirmed that investigations began immediately after the GD was lodged. “Several teams are actively working on this case,” he said. “We are analysing nearby CCTV footage to identify the rickshaw driver, and every effort is being made to locate the child swiftly and safely.”
Authorities reported that Hisan was in good health at the time of the incident, and there were no signs of injury. Police teams are canvassing the surrounding streets, rickshaw stands, and local shops to gather information. Residents in Mugda have expressed growing concern over child safety, calling for heightened vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.
The police have urged anyone with information to contact Mugda Police Station immediately. Sources indicate that both technological tools and field operations are being employed intensively to trace the abductor and recover the child without delay.
