SA considers setting up Consular office in Dhaka, South Africa is thinking about opening a consular office in Dhaka to foster more business and trade ties as well as cross-cultural exchanges. According to a press release from the foreign ministry, this was disclosed during a meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam and visiting South African Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs KC Mashego Dlamini at State Guest House Padma in Dhaka today.

The junior minister from South-Africa is in Dhaka on a bilateral visit and to participate in the IORA COM (Indian Ocean Rim Association Council of Ministers), which will be held there. The Bangladeshi state minister stressed the importance of establishing direct aviation connectivity while thanking the South African government for providing assistance to Bangladeshi citizens living in South Africa.
Alam suggested that South-African entrepreneurs may invest in Bangladesh’s high-tech parks and establish cooperation in agriculture, IT and climate change areas. He also recalled the supreme sacrifice and lifelong struggle of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and President Nelson Mandela for the emancipation of the common people.
Dlamini noted that potential areas of cooperation between Bangladesh and South Asia include the blue economy, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. She emphasized the necessity of reciprocal business delegation trips between South-Africa and Bangladesh. Alam emphasized cooperation between Bangladesh and South-Africa on a platform related to the effects of climate change.
In addition to making concerted efforts domestically, he claimed that Bangladesh is committed to social development, including the empowerment of women, and is a champion of the cause internationally. The South African delegation had previously gone to Dhanmondi’s Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum.
