Rumin Farhana, BNP’s International Affairs Joint Secretary and former Member of Parliament, has reaffirmed her intention to contest the Sarail-Ashuganj constituency in the upcoming national elections, stating that her ultimate decision rests with the people of the area.
“Whatever I say, I do. My final decision depends entirely on the people of my constituency. If you stand by me, I will contest the election from Sarail-Ashuganj, regardless of the party nomination,” she said.
Farhana made the remarks on Friday, 20 December, during a prayer and discussion gathering at Bitghar Market, Panishar Union, Sarail Upazila, organised for the speedy recovery of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Highlighting her frequent visits to the area, she emphasised her long-term vision for both Sarail and Ashuganj. “I have many dreams for these two upazilas. I want to transform them into model constituencies. With your votes, I will bring these dreams to reality in Parliament,” she told the gathering.
She also criticised the current nomination process in the country: “While celebrations are underway in most constituencies over party nominations, the people of Sarail-Ashuganj still do not know who their MP candidate is. This is regrettable for the locals.”
Referring to her political background, Farhana added: “I will not elaborate on my role over the past 17 years; the people already know. I am in politics to fulfil my father’s unfulfilled dreams. With your support, we can achieve victory for Bangladesh.”
Discussing the forthcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections scheduled for February, she remarked, “For the past 15 years, the people of Bangladesh have not been able to exercise their vote freely. The government now promises the best election in 2026. We hope this promise is kept.”
She also appealed to the authorities to ensure a safe and fair electoral process:
Recover all illegal arms before the election.
Bring weapons looted from police stations after 5 August under legal control.
Ensure the safety of voters, candidates, and party workers.
It is noteworthy that while BNP has already announced candidates for 272 constituencies in two phases, the Brahmanbaria-2 seat (Sarail-Ashuganj) remains undecided. Farhana has, over the past months, been actively engaging in grassroots mobilisation and community programmes across the constituency.
