A celebratory shopping excursion turned into an unimaginable tragedy in Lakshmipur’s Ramganj on Sunday, 8th March, as a sixteen-year-old schoolboy was killed in a structural collapse. The victim, Fahad Hossain, was struck by a falling wall from a pharmacy under renovation while standing directly beside his mother. The horrific incident has left the local community in shock and raised urgent questions regarding construction safety standards in the busy municipal area.
A Fatal Turn of Events
The accident occurred around midday in the Chaurasta area of Ramganj town, specifically in front of the Al Mansur Drug House. Fahad, a candidate for the upcoming SSC examinations from Nichhara High School, had accompanied his mother, Nasima Begum, to the market to purchase new clothes for the upcoming Eid festival.
CCTV footage of the incident captures the harrowing final moments: Fahad and his mother were waiting near the pharmacy while a sewing machine was being repaired at a neighbouring stall. As Fahad took a single step to his right, a section of an old roof wall from the pharmacy’s construction site suddenly gave way, burying him under a mountain of heavy masonry.
Casualties and Medical Response
Local bystanders and shopkeepers acted heroically to pull Fahad from the rubble, but his injuries proved fatal. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Ramganj Upazila Health Complex. His mother, Nasima, who witnessed the entire tragedy, collapsed in a state of profound shock and remains under medical supervision at the hospital.
The collapse also caused significant injuries to several others nearby. Among them, Khorshed Alam, a resident of Ichapur Union, suffered a fractured pelvis and spine; he has since been transferred to a specialist facility in Dhaka for advanced surgery.
Summary of the Incident Participants:

Investigation and Accountability
The Officer-in-Charge of Ramganj Police Station, Md. Firoz Uddin Chowdhury, confirmed that a formal investigation into the structural integrity of the Al Mansur Drug House is now underway. Preliminary observations suggest that the old wall may have been left unsupported during the renovation process.
Despite the severity of the incident, no arrests have been made as of Sunday evening. The body of the young student remains at the Upazila Health Complex pending a post-mortem examination. The loss of a promising student during the festive season has cast a dark shadow over the town of Ramganj.
