A 17-year-old schoolgirl, Fatema Akter Lili, was brutally murdered in the Banasree area of Dhaka on Saturday, in an incident that has shocked the local community. The teenager, a tenth-grade student at Radiant School, was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon, resulting in her death.
The horrific crime occurred between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm at a residence named ‘Pritam Villa’ on the main road of South Banasree. Fatema, originally from Bamoin village under Lakhai police station in Habiganj district, had been living in the flat on rent with her family nearby.
Police sources and family members confirmed that the victim was the daughter of Sajeeb Mia. She had been residing in the E Block area of Pritam Villa for some time while attending school.
Officer-in-Charge of Khilgaon Police Station, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the incident. He stated, “We received the information in the afternoon and immediately proceeded to the scene. The victim’s body was later recovered from Forazi Hospital. On visiting the hospital, I saw that the girl’s throat had been cut. The exact motive for the crime is not yet known, and the police are actively investigating the matter.”
Neighbours and local residents expressed their shock and grief, noting that Fatema was well-behaved and had no known disputes. Security concerns have been raised, and authorities are urged to increase vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the area.
