Selected Banks to Open on Eid for RMG Workers

Ahead of the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, selected branches of several banks across Bangladesh will operate on a limited basis on Thursday, 19 March, to ensure timely disbursement of salaries and allowances to workers in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector. The move comes under directives issued by Bangladesh Bank, which emphasise restricted staffing and limited customer transactions to facilitate smooth operations.

According to the central bank’s notification, the designated branches will primarily serve RMG-related payroll needs while maintaining minimal services for general customers. Branches in industrial hubs of Dhaka, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram will be open. Office hours are set from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with customer transactions available from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, allowing a brief pause for the Zuhr prayers.

This arrangement ensures that workers can conveniently access their salaries and benefits in time for the festive period, while banks maintain operational safety and staff wellbeing. Customers have been advised to plan their transactions accordingly, as not all branches will be operational.
