Seven Dead in Tula Bar Shooting in Hidalgo, Mexico

Seven people were killed and at least five others injured in a brazen armed attack at a bar in Tula, Hidalgo, Mexico. The assailants fled the scene immediately, evading capture.

According to reports, federal and state security forces launched operations in the area surrounding the bar, but no arrests have yet been made. Firstpost reported that the gunmen arrived in two pickup trucks, entered the bar without warning, and opened fire. Four victims died at the scene, while three more succumbed to their injuries later in hospitals in Tula and Tepeji.

Tula has long been a centre of criminal activity, particularly fuel theft, involving rival gangs. Authorities suggest that the attack may be linked to heightened tensions following the recent arrest of a local cartel leader, which is believed to have provoked retaliatory violence.

Since 2006, Mexico’s anti-drug operations and associated gang violence have resulted in approximately 480,000 deaths, with over 120,000 people still missing. Incidents like the Tula attack underscore the continuing challenges faced by authorities in combating organised crime in regions plagued by cartel rivalries.
