Several areas of the capital will experience a 10-hour suspension of gas supplies on Thursday as emergency repair work is carried out on a gas pipeline, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC has announced.
According to a notice issued by the gas distribution company on Wednesday morning, the interruption will begin at 10am on 8 October and continue until 8pm. During this period, gas supplies will remain suspended for residential, commercial and CNG customers in the affected areas.
The areas scheduled to face the shutdown include Agargaon, the western part of Taltala, the western part of Shewrapara, the western part of Kazipara, the western part of Mirpur-10, Mirpur-1, Paikpara, Kallyanpur, Shyamoli, Mirpur 60 Feet and Pirerbag.
The shutdown will also cover areas on the right-hand side of the road running from Kallyanpur towards Mirpur-1. Titas Gas said customers living in adjoining areas may experience reduced gas pressure during the repair period, even where the supply is not completely interrupted.
The planned shutdown is expected to affect households as well as a range of businesses that depend on piped natural gas for their daily operations. Restaurants and other commercial establishments in particular may face difficulties during the 10-hour period, while CNG customers in the affected locations may also encounter disruption.
For residential consumers, the timing of the interruption means that gas supplies will remain unavailable for much of the daytime and into the evening. Households in the affected neighbourhoods may therefore need to make temporary arrangements for cooking and other routine activities before the work begins.
Pipeline repair and maintenance are necessary to address faults and keep the distribution network functioning properly. Such work, however, can require temporary shutdowns because repair teams need to operate on sections of the network safely and effectively.
Titas Gas has asked customers to take the scheduled interruption into consideration and has expressed regret for the inconvenience. The company has also cautioned that gas pressure may remain lower than normal in nearby areas while the repair work is being carried out.
Customers in the affected locations are advised to remain prepared for the disruption between 10am and 8pm on Thursday. Normal gas service is expected to resume following completion of the scheduled repair work, although adjoining areas may experience temporary pressure fluctuations as the network returns to normal operation.
