Shamit Shome leaves The Club After Three Years

Bangladesh national team midfielder Shomit Shome has officially parted ways with Canadian professional football club Cavalry FC, ending a three-year association. On Wednesday, 14 January, the club issued a formal announcement on its official website confirming that the 28-year-old player had been released. Alongside Shome, fellow player Diego Gutierrez was also released from the club.

According to Cavalry FC, the decision comes primarily as Shome’s contract reached its natural conclusion and was not renewed. The club expressed gratitude for his contributions over the past three years and wished him well in his future career.

Since joining Cavalry FC in 2023, Shome has featured in 79 competitive matches across all competitions. Operating primarily in defensive and central midfield roles, he did not score any goals for the club but registered four assists, helping his teammates find the net on multiple occasions.

Shome’s presence coincided with a period of notable success for the Canadian side. Cavalry FC won the CPL Shield in 2023 and the North Star Cup in 2024 with him in the squad. His performances earned him multiple appearances in the CPL Team of the Week and recognition as Player of the Week on several occasions.

Internationally, Shome has also made his mark with Bangladesh. He made his national team debut in June 2025 against Singapore in the AFC Asian Cup qualifying match. To date, he has earned five caps for the Red and Green and scored one goal. That goal came on 13 November 2025, during a match against Hong Kong at Dhaka’s Bangabandhu National Stadium, where his extra-time strike earned Bangladesh a temporary equaliser, although Hong Kong ultimately won in the final moments.

Shome’s extensive experience in Canada’s domestic league has established him as one of South Asia’s prominent football figures. Currently unattached to any club, speculation is rife about which country or team he will join next. His career development continues to capture the interest of Bangladeshi football fans, and while his departure from Cavalry FC follows standard contract procedures, his contributions to the club’s history will be remembered with admiration.
