The ancestral residence of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a recent gunshot victim in Dhaka, was reportedly burgled on Friday night. The property is situated in Ward No. 4 of the municipal area in Nolchiti, Jhalokathi. The incident was confirmed by Ariful Alam, officer-in-charge of Nolchiti Police Station.
OC Ariful Alam stated that no family members were present at the house at the time of the burglary. Preliminary investigations suggest that the intruders gained entry by breaking a window. Upon receiving the information, the police promptly arrived at the scene and began a preliminary inquiry. They are consulting with family members, and all necessary legal procedures are currently underway.
Neighbour Golam Kibria Riaz recounted that early in the morning, while leaving for prayers, he noticed two individuals near the rear of Hadi’s residence. When he questioned them, they fled immediately, raising suspicion among the local community.
Meanwhile, Jannati Akter, another neighbour responsible for checking the property, reported finding cash wrapped in a towel lying outside the house in the morning. She informed her elder sister, Fatema Begum, who then entered the house and discovered a broken cupboard. The family confirmed that the intruders had stolen the cash contained within it.
Hadi’s cousin, Sirajul Islam, stated, “Taking advantage of the absence of family members, the intruders broke a window to enter the house. The exact amount or value of the stolen items has not yet been determined.”
It is noteworthy that earlier on Friday, at approximately 2:15 pm, Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in front of the water tank in Bijoynagar, Dhaka. At that time, he was returning from a mosque in Motijheel after conducting campaign activities and heading for lunch with colleagues at Suhrawardy Udyan, travelling in a battery-powered rickshaw. While in transit, a gunman on a motorcycle fired at him, striking his head.
Following the attack, Hadi was initially admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After undergoing brain surgery, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital in the Bashundhara residential area, where he remains under intensive care in the ICU. Doctors have stated that his condition continues to be critical.
Hadi’s family reportedly travelled to Dhaka on the day of the shooting to remain close to him during his treatment and recovery.
The police continue to investigate the burglary while maintaining close oversight of the situation. Authorities are ensuring that all necessary legal and procedural measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further incidents. The family, meanwhile, remains anxious and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigations.
