The 67th birthday of Sheikh Rehana, the younger daughter of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is being celebrated today.
Born on 13th September 1956 at Mitford Hospital in Dhaka, Sheikh Rehana is the third of five children born to Bangabandhu and Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib. Sheikh Rehana is currently residing in London, and as a result, there are no formal celebrations in Bangladesh for her birthday this year.
Sheikh Rehana is married to Professor Dr. Shafique Ahmed Siddique, and together they have three children: a son and two daughters. Their son, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, works for an international organisation and is also a trustee of the Awami League’s research wing, the Centre for Research and Information (CRI). Their daughter, Tulip Siddiq, is a Member of Parliament in the British Parliament, representing the Labour Party. The youngest daughter, Azmina Siddiq Rupanti, is the Global Risks Analysis Editor at London-based Control Risks.
The tragic assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his entire family, with the exception of Sheikh Rehana and her elder sister, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, occurred on the night of 15th August 1975. Both daughters survived the massacre, as they were visiting West Germany at the time.

Known affectionately as “Chhoto Apa” (younger sister), Sheikh Rehana carries forward the simple, humble lifestyle instilled in her by her father, Bangabandhu.
On the occasion of her birthday, social media platforms are filled with heartfelt messages and well-wishes from thousands of people and followers, expressing their admiration and wishing Sheikh Rehana a long, healthy life.
The legacy of Bangabandhu’s family continues to inspire millions, and today marks another year of Sheikh Rehana’s journey of resilience, simplicity, and dedication to her family and values.
