Shooter Sohag Arrested 10 Months After Open-Fire Incident in Adamjee

A joint law enforcement operation has resulted in the arrest of the notorious criminal Sohag, also known as Shooter Sohag (34), who gained notoriety for his involvement in a violent public shootout over control of the jute business in Adamjee Export Processing Zone (EPZ), Siddhirganj. Sohag is reportedly the cousin of Rakibur Rahman Sagar, former president of the Narayanganj Metropolitan Chhatra Dal, and was one of Sagar’s key associates.

On Tuesday, 13 January, Sohag was apprehended from the Kadamtoli area of Siddhirganj, along with two of his accomplices, Abdul Jalil (32) and Md. Parvez (25). All three are residents of different localities under Siddhirganj Police Station jurisdiction.

According to police, the arrest relates to an incident in March 2025, when a confrontation erupted between rival groups vying for control over a jute business at Universal Garments Factory in Adamjee EPZ. During the clash, Sohag was captured on camera openly firing a handgun in public, leaving at least eight people injured. The violent confrontation also saw several motorcycles vandalised and set ablaze. Following the circulation of video footage on social media, Sohag went into hiding, although locals reported seeing him return to the area some days later.

Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Barik stated, “Based on confidential intelligence, we raided an area in Kadamtoli early this morning and arrested Sohag along with his two accomplices. They were found to be under the influence of narcotics at the time. No firearms were recovered, but a body search of the trio yielded 120 yaba tablets weighing approximately 12 grams, with an estimated street value of 36,000 taka. Cases have been filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act.”

OC Barik further added that Sohag has prior charges related to narcotics and criminal offences, while both Jalil and Parvez also face pending cases. He denied possessing firearms during questioning. Police plan to seek remand from the court, and any future recovery of weapons will result in additional charges under the Arms Act.
