A disturbing act of vandalism has shaken the residents of Thakurgaon after miscreants allegedly damaged the revered shrine of Hazrat Baba Shah Satya Pir (R.A.), located in the Satya Pir Bijra area of Thakurgaon municipality. The incident is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Saturday, under the cover of darkness, triggering widespread anger and concern among local communities.
According to local sources, worshippers arriving at the shrine for Fajr prayers were stunned to discover visible signs of destruction within the shrine compound. Portions of the structure had reportedly been damaged, leaving devotees shocked and deeply distressed. News of the vandalism spread rapidly throughout the neighbourhood, prompting an emotional response and heightening tensions in the area.
For decades, the shrine of Hazrat Shah Satya Pir (R.A.) has been regarded as a spiritual sanctuary for people from all walks of life. Devotees frequently visit the shrine to offer prayers, fulfil vows, and seek solace. Many locals firmly believe that their prayers have been answered after visiting the shrine, further underscoring its spiritual and cultural importance. The desecration of such a sacred site has therefore been perceived not merely as an act of vandalism, but as a profound affront to religious sentiment and communal harmony.
Expressing strong condemnation, Maulana Azizul Islam Babul, General Secretary of the Graveyard and Shrine Committee, described the incident as “utterly reprehensible”. Speaking to the media, he demanded the immediate identification of those responsible and called for a thorough investigation to ensure exemplary punishment. “This is an attack on faith itself,” he remarked, urging authorities to act decisively to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Following reports of the incident, senior officials swiftly visited the site. The Superintendent of Police of Thakurgaon, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Sadar, members of the Detective Branch (DB), local police officers from Sadar Police Station, and personnel from Thakurgaon 50 BGB conducted an on-site inspection. Their presence helped calm the situation and reassured residents of prompt administrative action.
Additional Superintendent of Police Khodadad Hossain confirmed that multiple police teams have been deployed to investigate the matter. He stated that law enforcement agencies are working diligently to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice without delay.
Meanwhile, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khairul Islam emphasised that the administration is treating the incident with utmost seriousness. “We have personally inspected the site. A full investigation is underway, and appropriate legal measures will be taken based on the findings,” he said.
Local residents have urged authorities to strengthen security around religious sites to preserve communal peace and safeguard places of worship from future acts of vandalism.
