Soumya Sarkar may lead Noakhali Express

The newly formed franchise, Noakhali Express, is gearing up for its inaugural campaign in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with a squad that blends experienced internationals and promising young talent. The team has already secured two star players through direct contracts and supplemented its roster with several notable acquisitions from the player auction. Team coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon has hinted that left-handed batsman Soumya Sarkar may be entrusted with the captaincy for the season, pending the player’s consent.

Soumya Sarkar, a mainstay of the national side, was acquired through a direct contract ahead of the auction. Coach Sujon stated, “I would like Soumya to lead the team if he is willing. Often players are hesitant to shoulder extra responsibility, and if he chooses otherwise, I will fully respect his decision.”

Another significant acquisition is Habibur Rahman Sohan, whose performances in the Rising Stars Asia Cup drew widespread attention. Sujon described him as a “pocket dynamo” who has the potential to energise the team on the field. “Sohan will be one to watch. Alongside experienced campaigners like Charles, Soumya, and Kushal, he will add flair without the burden of excessive expectation. Soumya’s presence will make it easier for Sohan to express himself at the crease,” Sujon added.
