The main suspect, Md. Rana, involved in the murder of Masum Howlader in Narayanganj three years ago, has been arrested by the PBI. On Monday (24 November), the accused gave a confessional statement under Section 164 in court. Earlier, on Sunday (23 November) afternoon, he was arrested in the Kayempur WAPDA Pul area of Fatulla.
According to the case details, on the evening of 5 November 2022, Masum Howlader left his home for work as usual.
When his phone was found switched off that night, his family became worried. His relatives began searching for him, but there was no trace of him. Two days later, on 7 November, his body was found near a canal in the Kushiyari area of Bandar Thana. His elder brother identified the body.
The accused had murdered Masum Howlader by stabbing him with a sharp weapon and left his body behind.
The PBI reports that the case was initially registered at Bandar Thana. However, despite the passage of a long period of time, the reason for the murder and the identities of the culprits remained unclear. Considering the situation, the Police Headquarters assigned the investigation to the PBI.
Inspector Habibur Rahman was given the responsibility of investigating the case. He gathered crucial information about the accused Md. Rana, also known as Sohel or Auto Rana, using technology, field investigation, and secret sources. Rana, who had been on the run for three years, had been living under a false identity in the area. Finally, the PBI, led by the head of the Narayanganj unit, Police Superintendent Mustafa Kamal Rashed, managed to arrest him.
In the investigation, PBI Inspector Md. Habibur Rahman stated that the confessional statement would further clarify the progress of the case.
The PBI team continues its efforts to capture other fugitive suspects involved in the case.
