The recovery occurred on Tuesday, 16 December, at around 12:00 pm, following a report from local bystanders who discovered the body within the shrine’s precincts.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the deceased lying motionless inside the shrine shortly after 11:30 am. The incident attracted immediate attention, with members of the community expressing shock and concern over the unexplained death. The Five Pirs Shrine is a historically significant site that frequently draws large crowds, and the discovery of a body in such a location has naturally led to heightened curiosity and speculation.
Upon receiving the report, the Sylhet Metropolitan Police quickly dispatched personnel to the shrine to secure the scene. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, confirming the recovery, stated, “An unidentified individual’s body has been retrieved from within the Five Pirs Shrine at Zindabazar. It has been sent for post-mortem examination at the Osmani Medical College morgue. We will ascertain the cause of death once the autopsy report is available.”
