Last month, Bangladesh secured a two-match home Test series win against Ireland. In the series, Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took a total of 13 wickets. For his exceptional performance, he has been nominated as ICC Player of the Month for November.
The ICC website notes, “The left-arm spinner has played a key role in ensuring team victories on home soil.” Taijul outperformed Shakib Al Hasan in wicket-taking during the series, achieving 250 wickets in 57 Tests.
Joining him on the nomination list are South Africa’s Simon Harmer and Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz. Harmer took a total of 17 wickets in a two-match Test series in India, while Nawaz achieved 10 wickets in Pakistan’s home tri-nation T20 series.
In women’s cricket, November nominees include India’s Shafali Verma, Thailand’s Thipacha Puthawang, and UAE’s Ayesha Ooza. Shafali scored 87 runs in India’s World Cup final victory, Thipacha took a joint highest 15 wickets in the Emerging Nations Trophy, and Ayesha Ooza scored 187 runs in seven T20 matches.
Taijul is the third Bangladeshi to earn this recognition, following Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Previously, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim had won the award.
