A tragic road accident in Tangail’s Ghatail Upazila claimed the life of Kamal Hossain, a former leader of the local Youth League, on Friday night. The 49-year-old, who was also a healthcare worker at a private clinic, was killed in a collision involving his motorcycle and a battery-operated auto-rickshaw.
The incident occurred around 9:00 pm on the Tangail–Mymensingh road, in Deulabari Union, as Hossain was travelling from Ghatail towards Madhupur. According to eyewitness Kamrul Islam, “The motorcycle was moving towards Madhupur when it collided with a battery-operated auto-rickshaw. At that moment, a heavy goods truck ran over the motorcycle, causing it to catch fire instantly. Hossain was thrown a short distance away and died at the scene.”
Local residents quickly rescued the motorcyclist and rushed him to Madhupur Health Complex, where doctors pronounced him dead. Fire services also arrived promptly to extinguish the fire on the motorcycle. Station Officer Mohammad Borhan Ali of the Madhupur Fire Service and Civil Defence said, “Our unit reached the scene shortly after receiving the call. Fortunately, locals had already rescued the injured, but we worked immediately to control the fire.”
Kamal Hossain, son of Hatem Ali from Garanchala village in Mominpur, Rassulpur Union, was actively involved in local politics as the former Joint General Secretary of Rassulpur Union Youth League. Fellow Youth League leader Sohag Hossain recalled his dedication: “Kamal played a significant role in youth politics in the area. His loss is deeply felt by the community.”
The following day, Saturday, 17 January, a funeral prayer was held in Garanchala, after which his body was laid to rest in the family graveyard. Ghatail police confirmed that after completing the legal formalities, the body was handed over to his family. Officer-in-Charge Moksedur Rahman of Ghatail Police Station stated, “All necessary legal procedures were followed before the body was released to the next of kin.”
