A tragic road accident in Bhanga, under Faridpur district, has claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy, while his friend remains critically injured following a collision between a motorcycle and an unidentified vehicle on the service lane of the Dhaka–Bhanga Expressway.
The deceased has been identified as Jifat Fakir, 17, son of expatriate Buaizid Fakir from the village of Chhoto Palla under Nasirabad Union in Bhanga upazila. The accident occurred on Tuesday evening (7 April) at approximately 7:30 pm near Puliya Bazar in Chandra Union. His friend, Rifat Matubbor, also 17, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to hospital.
According to family sources, the two teenagers had collected fuel from Zobayer Filling Station in Brahmanpara village under Azimnagar Union earlier in the evening. While returning on their motorcycle, they reached the Puliya Bazar area, where their vehicle reportedly collided head-on with an unidentified battery-powered autorickshaw or easy-bike on the service lane. The impact of the collision was severe enough to throw both riders onto the road.
Local residents quickly responded to the scene and rescued the injured teenagers, transporting them to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex. On arrival, attending physicians declared Jifat Fakir dead. Rifat Matubbor was admitted with serious injuries and is currently under treatment.
Police from the Shibchar Highway Police Station confirmed the incident. Officer-in-Charge Zahirul Islam stated that a motorcycle and an easy-bike had collided, resulting in the death of one teenager. Authorities have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the identity and involvement of the other vehicle.
Road accidents involving motorcycles and battery-run autorickshaws have been increasingly reported along highways and service lanes in the region, raising concerns about traffic discipline, lighting conditions at night, and the regulation of slow-moving vehicles on expressway feeder roads.
