Teenaged Driver Murdered as Auto-Rickshaw Stolen in Noakhali

In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community, the body of a physically challenged teenage auto-rickshaw driver was discovered in a remote paddy field in the Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali. Local authorities suspect that the youth was brutally murdered by a gang of miscreants who subsequently fled with his vehicle.

Discovery of the Crime Scene

The deceased has been identified as Md. Abdul Ahad, 17, son of Nurul Alam from the Osmania Factory area of Chattogram. Acting on reports from local residents, police recovered the body on Sunday afternoon from a field adjacent to the Munshi Bari Bridge in Ward No. 1 of Kutubpur Union.

The scene was described by investigators as particularly grim; the victim’s mouth and throat had been tightly bound with adhesive tape, a method suggesting the assailants intended to stifle any cries for help during a struggle.

A Life Cut Short

Ahad’s personal history adds a layer of poignancy to the tragedy. According to his maternal uncle, Md. Azad, Ahad had been living with his mother’s family for the past two years following his parents’ divorce. Despite his physical disabilities, the teenager worked diligently as a driver for a battery-operated auto-rickshaw owned by a local businessman named Jilani.

The alarm was first raised late Saturday night. Around 1:00 AM, the vehicle’s owner contacted Ahad’s mother to inform her that the boy had failed to return to the garage. A frantic search ensued, but neither the boy nor the vehicle could be located until the gruesome discovery the following day.

Investigative Details

Inspector (Investigation) Md. Habibur Rahman of Begumganj Police Station confirmed that a preliminary inquest has been conducted. “The evidence suggests a premeditated act of carjacking,” the Inspector noted. “It appears the culprits murdered the young driver to facilitate the theft of the auto-rickshaw and discarded his body in the secluded field to delay detection.”
