Upon reaching a secluded stretch of road, they pushed Shanto off the vehicle and fled after dumping it into a roadside ditch. Attempting to give chase behind his rickshaw, Shanto was struck by a fast-moving truck and died instantly at the scene.
The Mohipal Highway Police promptly arrived, recovered the body, and prepared a preliminary inquest report before transferring it to the morgue of Feni 250-Bed General Hospital.
