Teenager Found Dead in Rice Field After Disappearing Overnight

A quiet rural community in Madan upazila of Netrokona has been plunged into shock and grief after the body of a teenage boy, who went missing the previous evening, was discovered in a rice field the following morning. The incident has raised serious concerns among local residents and prompted a full police investigation into what is being treated as a suspected homicide.

Police confirmed that the body was recovered on Monday morning from a cultivated field in the Maghan Rauha haor area. The discovery was made after local farmers noticed the body lying in the field and immediately alerted authorities. According to Debangshu Kumar, Inspector (Investigation) of Madan Police Station, officers rushed to the scene and secured the area before recovering the remains.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Shawon, aged 16, a resident of Padmashree Bhuiyati village under Gobindashree Union. Shawon was the son of Dulal Bhuiya and a Class 10 student at Jahangirpur T Amin Government Pilot High School. Family members, teachers and neighbours described him as a polite, soft-spoken boy who was focused on his studies and regularly helped his family after school.

Disappearance and Search :

According to police and local eyewitnesses, Shawon was last seen on Sunday evening sitting at his grandfather’s shop in the Kadamsree Bikal Bazaar area. At around dusk, two unidentified individuals reportedly approached the shop and called Shawon outside. He left with them and did not return.

When Shawon failed to come home that night, his family grew increasingly anxious. Relatives and neighbours searched nearby markets, roads and surrounding villages throughout the night, but there was no sign of him. Their worst fears were realised the following morning when news broke that a teenage body had been found in a nearby rice field.

Signs of Violence and Ongoing Investigation :

Police officials stated that multiple injury marks were visible on Shawon’s body, strengthening suspicions that he was subjected to violence before his death. The body has been sent to the Netrokona Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, which is expected to determine the exact cause and time of death.

Inspector Debangshu Kumar said:

“This is a very serious matter. We are conducting a thorough investigation to identify those involved and determine the motive behind the killing. Legal proceedings are underway.”

The incident has cast a shadow of fear and sorrow over the area. Residents have demanded swift justice and increased security, particularly for young people who often assist their families at local markets.
