Tejgaon College Students Block Farmgate Demanding Justice for Murdered Peer

Students of Tejgaon College in Dhaka have staged a protest at Farmgate intersection, demanding justice for their murdered classmate, Sakibul Hasan Rana. The demonstration began on Sunday at approximately 10:00 a.m., bringing traffic in and around the area to a complete standstill. The disruption caused severe congestion, leaving office-goers and commuters stranded and frustrated.

Speaking to the press, Rana’s friend Habib Rahman said, “We demand justice for Rana’s murder. We had previously blocked roads in protest, and authorities assured us action would be taken. Yet, the identified perpetrators are still roaming free. We will continue our movement until justice is served.”

Habib added that, to date, only one person has been arrested in connection with the case. However, CCTV footage clearly shows several individuals involved who remain outside the reach of the law.

Police reports confirm that the initial incident occurred on 6 December last year at the Tejgaon College dormitory, where a conflict erupted between two groups of students. During the confrontation, Sakibul Hasan Rana, an 18-year-old second-year higher secondary student, sustained serious injuries. After four days of hospitalisation, Rana succumbed to his injuries on 10 December at a hospital in Moghbazar.

Authorities emphasised that the police are actively investigating the matter. Traffic police were deployed at Farmgate to manage congestion and ensure public safety during the protest. The students have stated that unless swift judicial action is taken and all perpetrators are brought to justice, further demonstrations may follow.
