A 40-year-old local man, Abdur Rahim Prokash Roikha, was shot dead in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, in an incident reportedly involving armed Rohingya militants. Abdur Rahim, a resident of Muchhni Noiapara, was the son of Habibur Rahman and lived in the area with his family, earning a livelihood through daily wage work.
The fatal incident occurred late on the night of Tuesday, 13 January, near Bikash Mor, adjacent to the Register Camp in Muchhni Noiapara. Local sources reported that the victim was called out of his home by unidentified armed individuals and subsequently went missing. His mobile phone was unreachable throughout the night, prompting growing concern among family members.
Early on Wednesday morning, local residents discovered Abdur Rahim’s body lying near Bikash Mor and informed Teknaf Model Police Station. Officers promptly arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and conducted a preliminary post-mortem documentation before sending it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for a formal autopsy.
Speaking to reporters, his widow, Chhara Khatun, said, “Last night, my husband was forcibly taken from our home by Rohingya militants. Since then, his phone has been switched off. This morning, I learnt that his body was found at Bikash Mor. I am left with two young children at home and demand justice from the government for my husband’s murder.”
Local residents expressed outrage over the incident. Nur Hossain Putu, a nearby resident, stated, “We provided shelter to the Rohingya out of humanitarian concern, but it appears to have been a grave mistake. They continuously engage in murder, abduction, and other crimes against local people. Abdur Rahim’s killing is a tragic proof. We urge the authorities to identify the culprits and bring them swiftly to justice.”
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Saiful Islam, confirmed that the body had been recovered and post-mortem documentation completed. He added that legal procedures would follow based on the family’s formal complaint and that further investigation was ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators. Security measures in the area have reportedly been intensified following the attack.
