The DB has once again arrested Evaly’s Russel and Shamima.

In a significant development in the ongoing Evaly case, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted a late-night operation in the Dhanmondi area and re-arrested Evaly’s Chairman, Shamima Nasrin, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mohammad Russel. The operation took place during the early hours of Monday, 19 January 2026.

According to DB sources, the two executives face a total of 391 arrest warrants issued across Dhanmondi, Kafrul, and Savar police stations, with more than a hundred warrants specifically registered under Dhanmondi Police Station. The warrants pertain to multiple allegations, including fraud and embezzlement of customer funds.

Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, 20 January 2026. He stated, “Evaly’s MD Mohammad Russel and Chairman Shamima Nasrin have been taken into custody. Appropriate legal action will be pursued in accordance with the law.”

Dhanmondi Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Saiful Islam, also confirmed that the information regarding the arrests had reached their office, and they would oversee the procedural aspects of the ongoing cases.

DB sources further revealed that Shamima Nasrin and Mohammad Russel were initially arrested on 16 September 2021 from Mohammadpur in Dhaka in connection with charges of fraud and embezzlement. Shamima was released on bail in April 2022, while Russel secured bail in December 2022.

DB officials emphasised that over 300 warrants have been issued across the three police stations for allegations involving corporate irregularities and the misappropriation of customer funds.

Industry and economic analysts have noted that this high-profile case has significant implications for Bangladesh’s e-commerce sector. Experts stress that strict legal enforcement is crucial to restore consumer confidence and ensure accountability within online businesses. The DB continues to investigate, and further arrests of individuals connected to the case cannot be ruled out.

This renewed crackdown highlights the authorities’ firm stance on financial misconduct in digital commerce, signalling that corporate leaders may be held directly responsible for irregularities in their companies.
