Gas consumers in Bangladesh are being advised to prepare for reduced supply over the next three days, as maintenance work at the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal and delays in cargo deliveries have led to a temporary dip in gas pressure across the network.
The announcement was made on Friday, 26 December, by the authorities at Titas Gas, the country’s largest natural gas distribution company. According to an official statement, the pressure drop will affect all consumer categories in areas serviced by Titas Gas from 6:00 AM on Friday until 12:00 midnight on Sunday, 28 December.
The company explained that the reduced gas flow is primarily due to ongoing maintenance activities at the LNG terminal, coupled with a delay in LNG shipments, which has constrained the amount of gas available for distribution. Titas Gas expressed sincere apologies for the temporary inconvenience that consumers may face during this period.
Consumers are being urged to use gas judiciously, particularly in households and commercial establishments, to minimise disruptions. The company also assured that teams are actively monitoring the situation to restore normal supply levels as soon as possible.
For better understanding, the impact on different consumer categories is summarised in the table below:
| Consumer Category | Expected Impact | Duration | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic households | Low gas pressure | 26–28 December | Advisory to use gas sparingly |
| Commercial establishments | Low gas pressure | 26–28 December | Reduced operational capacity possible |
| Industrial consumers | Low gas pressure | 26–28 December | Production schedules may be affected |
| Titas Gas network areas | Across all affiliated zones | 26–28 December | Regular monitoring ongoing |
Titas Gas officials emphasised that the supply situation is temporary and that gas pressure is expected to return to normal levels once the terminal maintenance is completed and LNG shipments are received.
The authorities urged the public to remain patient and assured that every effort is being made to minimise inconvenience. Residents are encouraged to plan their energy usage carefully during this brief period of reduced supply.
