Uncertainty still surrounds Bangladesh’s participation in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, as questions over security continue to dominate discussions. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) via official communication that it is reluctant for the national team to play in India due to safety concerns.
In response, the ICC has emphasised that it places significant importance on the views and recommendations of member boards, including the BCB. This assurance was conveyed in a message that the BCB recently received from cricket’s governing body. According to the communication, the ICC is “firmly committed to ensuring that Bangladesh can participate fully and safely in the tournament.”
The BCB, in an official statement, confirmed that the ICC had acknowledged a number of security concerns raised by the board. Moreover, the ICC has expressed a willingness to work closely with Bangladesh to address these concerns, including incorporating the board’s suggestions into the tournament’s detailed security arrangements.
Speculation about possible ultimatums has also circulated. Yesterday, CricketInfo claimed that the ICC had issued a warning, suggesting that Bangladesh would have to play in India or face point deductions. The BCB has firmly denied these reports, describing them as “completely false and unfounded.” According to the board, the official exchanges with the ICC bear no resemblance to such claims.
The BCB remains optimistic that continued dialogue with the ICC will result in a practical and amicable solution, enabling Bangladesh to participate successfully in the Men’s T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh has been placed in Group C of the tournament, alongside Nepal, Italy, England, and the West Indies. The original schedule had the first three matches taking place in Kolkata, with one fixture in Mumbai. However, due to emerging security risks in India, the BCB has indicated it is unwilling to host matches there under the current circumstances.

The BCB hopes that through constructive discussion, a solution can be found that balances both player safety and the integrity of the tournament, allowing Bangladesh to compete without compromise.
