The Shocking Killing of Dipu in Bhaluka: What Unfolded That Day

A deeply troubling incident in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, has sparked nationwide concern after a young Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, was killed following allegations of making derogatory remarks about Islam. In the aftermath, claims of misinformation circulating on Facebook and in sections of the media have further complicated public understanding of what truly happened.

According to investigators and family members, Dipu, a junior quality inspector at Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Ltd, an affiliate of the Badshah Group, became embroiled in a heated exchange with colleagues on 18 December at around 4:00 pm. The discussion reportedly arose during casual conversation among workers in the factory’s mending section and escalated rapidly. Audio recordings later surfaced, purportedly capturing fragments of the exchange, though Dipu’s family strongly disputes both their context and interpretation. They insist he was incapable of making the alleged remarks and believe he was deliberately targeted.

Dipu hailed from Mokamiakanda village in Tarakanda upazila and was the son of Ravi Chandra Das. He had been employed at the factory for just over a year and, according to company officials, had no leadership role in labour representation, contrary to claims made in some reports.

Factory management maintains that once tensions became apparent, Dipu was removed from the production floor and taken to the administrative section for his own safety. Senior Complex Manager Uday Hossain stated that no violence occurred inside the factory. However, as rumours spread rapidly through social media, a large crowd gathered outside the premises, creating an increasingly volatile situation that law enforcement struggled to control.

Despite the arrival of police and later additional security forces, the situation deteriorated. Dipu was eventually killed outside the factory premises. Authorities have since launched extensive operations in the surrounding areas, while fear of arrest has reportedly deterred many witnesses from speaking openly.

Legal Proceedings and Arrests

Dipu’s brother has filed a murder case against 150 unidentified individuals. The Criminal Investigation Department (DB) is handling the inquiry. So far, 12 people have been arrested and produced before court, where three-day remand was granted for each.

Voices from the Family and Authorities

Dipu’s father has demanded a fair and transparent investigation, stating that his son could not have committed religious disrespect. His widow, Meghla Rani Das, expressed grave concern for her family’s future, as Dipu was the sole breadwinner.

Badshah Group’s Managing Director, Md Badshah Mia, stressed that mob violence has no place in an industrial setting and pledged support for Dipu’s family. Police officials have assured that all those responsible will face justice, while innocent individuals will not be harassed.

The incident has reignited debate over workplace safety, the dangers of misinformation, and the urgent need for restraint and lawful resolution in moments of communal tension.
