Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detectives conducted coordinated operations across Manikganj and Gazipur districts on Friday night, resulting in the arrest of three individuals linked to the murder of Azijur Rahman, also known as Musabbir, a senior leader of the Bangladesh Sheccha Shebok League. Among those detained are the principal shooter, Zinat, and the alleged mastermind, Billal, alongside a third accomplice.
A senior officer from the DMP’s Detective Branch, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the killing was premeditated. “We have apprehended the three individuals directly involved in Musabbir’s murder. Interrogations are ongoing, and we are collecting critical information related to the case,” he stated.
Azijur Rahman, aged 44, formerly served as the General Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Volunteer League. Over recent years, he faced multiple legal cases, spending significant periods in detention. Following the government change on 5 August 2024, he became actively involved in party politics once again.
The attack occurred late on Wednesday at approximately 10:00 pm in the West Tejturi Bazar area under Tejgaon Police Station in Dhaka. According to reports, unidentified assailants opened fire, fatally wounding Rahman. His sudden death left fellow Volunteer League members in deep shock and mourning. The funeral prayer was held on Thursday afternoon in front of the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.
Rahman’s widow, Suraiya Akter, has filed a case with Tejgaon Police, naming four to five unidentified individuals as suspects.
