A devastating head-on collision between two passenger buses in Mymensingh has left three people dead and at least ten others injured. The tragic road accident occurred on Wednesday evening at around half past six in the Alalpur area under the Mymensingh Sadar Upazila, casting a pall of deep sorrow over the locality.
According to local police and eyewitness accounts, a passenger bus operated by Shyamoli Bangla Paribahan was journeying towards Dhaka from Mymensingh. As the vehicle reached the Alalpur locality, it collided violently with an oncoming Imam Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka towards Haluaghat. The sheer force of the impact left the front sections of both vehicles mangled and severely damaged. One passenger, identified as A. Razzaq, died on the spot. He was the son of Hossain Ali from Dhara village within the Dhara Union of the Haluaghat Upazila in Mymensingh.
Local residents and passers-by rushed to the scene immediately following the crash to assist with initial rescue efforts. Upon receiving the emergency alert, police and fire service personnel arrived swiftly to manage the situation and transport the injured passengers to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. At least six critically wounded individuals were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Upon arrival at the emergency department, attending physicians examined the victims and declared two of them dead. One of the newly deceased victims was identified as Md Tofazzal Hossain, 60, hailing from Singheswar village in the neighboring Phulpur Upazila, while the identity of the third deceased individual remains unconfirmed.
Md Al Amin, the in-charge of the police camp at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, confirmed that six injured passengers were brought to the facility, where two succumbed to their injuries. The remaining survivors are currently receiving treatment across various wards of the hospital. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shibirul Islam, the officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, stated that law enforcement teams were dispatched immediately after the incident was reported. Traffic movement has since been restored, and necessary legal procedures regarding the fatal crash are currently underway. Road safety advocates and local commuters have repeatedly expressed concern over reckless driving, excessive speed, and the blatant disregard for traffic regulations on regional highways, which continue to claim precious lives across the country.
