Three Killed In Faridpur Pickup-Train Collision

In Faridpur’s Boalmari upazila, a tragic accident occurred on Monday afternoon when a passenger train collided with a labourers’ pickup at an unguarded railway crossing. Three workers lost their lives, while ten others sustained injuries.

The collision took place around 3:00 pm at the Sotashi area on the Kalukhali–Bhatiapara railway line, within the Boalmari municipal area. The deceased were identified as Jabbar Molla and Musha Molla, two brothers from Bilkarail village, and Jahanara Begum, wife of Abul Kalam from the same village.

Five critically injured victims were rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for immediate treatment, while the remaining injured were admitted to Boalmari Upazila Health Complex.

According to railway police and local residents, 15 labourers had been returning from work at a jute mill in the pickup. As they approached the railway crossing in Sotashi, the vehicle was struck by a local passenger train travelling from Kalukhali to Bhatiapara. The impact was devastating, resulting in the immediate death of three passengers at the scene.

Local eyewitness Bilayet Hossain recounted the incident: “This happened right in front of our house. I had just returned from the market and was about to have lunch when I heard a loud crash. Running outside, I saw the pickup collided with the train and three people had died instantly. Several others, men and women, were injured and taken to hospital.”

The news of the accident prompted Boalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Rokibul Hasan and Officer-in-Charge of the local police station, Md. Anowar Hossain, to visit the site immediately.

Rajbari Railway Police Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman confirmed that the railway police were dispatched to the scene as soon as they received the report. He added that legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident.
