According to police sources, the incident occurred on Monday at approximately 3:17 p.m. Nabila Akter, a resident of Urkirchar Union in Raufan Upazila, was playing outside her home with children of a similar age near the St. Martin Club, adjacent to Baijjakhaly Gate, when unidentified assailants abducted her using a CNG vehicle. Her father promptly filed a missing person report with Raufan Police Station (GD No. 488) on the same day.

Following the abduction, one of the perpetrators contacted the child’s father and demanded a ransom of BDT 500,000. Acting under the directive of Chattogram District Police Superintendent Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan, Raufan police officer-in-charge Mohammad Sajedul Islam led a special operation. The investigation included detailed analysis of CCTV footage from the area and the use of modern tracking technology to locate the suspects.

During the coordinated operation, all three suspects were apprehended at separate locations. Nabila Akter was recovered unharmed and immediately handed over to her family to ensure her safety. Subsequently, a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act was filed at Raufan Police Station on Tuesday, 10 March, and the arrested individuals were sent to court.

Police officials emphasised that child abduction and ransom demands pose serious threats to the safety of minors. The swift response and deployment of technological tools played a pivotal role in ensuring the child’s secure recovery.

Experts have highlighted the importance of enhanced CCTV surveillance and the creation of safe recreational spaces for children to prevent similar incidents in the future. This case also underscores the value of community vigilance and the cooperation between local volunteers and law enforcement.

The child’s family expressed their profound gratitude to the police and the local community for their prompt and coordinated efforts, which ensured Nabila Akter’s safe return.
